Position Summary
Our Lady of Mercy Academy seeks a knowledgeable, faith-filled, and enthusiastic Part-Time High School Social Studies Teacher to provide engaging instruction in United States History and World History.
The successful candidate will inspire students to develop a deeper understanding
of history, civilization, culture, and the human experience while supporting the academic and spiritual mission of our Catholic schools. This position emphasizes thoughtful discussion, historical inquiry, analytical writing, and the pursuit of truth through the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. Candidates with knowledge of or interest in Classical Catholic education are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essential Responsibilities
● Teach two high school history courses: United States History and World History.
● Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons that foster historical thinking, critical
analysis, and meaningful discussion.
● Utilize primary source documents, historical literature, maps, speeches, and other
classical texts to deepen student understanding of historical events and ideas.
● Encourage students to examine history through the enduring questions of human nature, virtue, justice, leadership, and the common good.
● Integrate elements of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Classical education by
promoting thoughtful dialogue, close reading, logical reasoning, and the pursuit of truth,
goodness, and beauty.
● Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
● Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments,
including essays, projects, presentations, discussions, and traditional assessments.
● Foster a respectful classroom environment that encourages curiosity, intellectual growth, and civil discourse.
● Collaborate with faculty and administration to support interdisciplinary learning
opportunities, particularly with Literature, Theology, and the Humanities.
● Communicate effectively with parents, students, and school staff.
● Uphold the mission, values, and teachings of the Catholic Church and serve as a
positive role model for students.
Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in History, Social Studies Education, Political Science, Education, or a
related field preferred.
● Teaching certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
● Experience teaching middle or high school social studies or history is preferred.
● Strong knowledge of United States and World History.
● Familiarity with or willingness to learn the principles of Classical Catholic education
preferred.
● Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
● Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

The successful candidate will inspire artistic expression, foster creativity, and support the academic and spiritual mission of our Catholic schools. This position involves planning and delivering age-appropriate art instruction, showcasing student work, and cultivating an appreciation for the arts within a Christ-centered learning environment.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
Saint Joseph Regional School (SJRS) and Our Lady of Mercy Academy (OLMA) are seeking qualified, dedicated individuals to serve as Substitute Teachers periodically during the school year. Candidates do not need to be certified teachers, but classroom experience is beneficial. Retired teachers are welcome! Experience working with children/teens is preferred, as well as:
•A nurturing disposition with the ability to supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of our students at all times.
•Interest in supporting the individual development of each student.
•The ability to implement detailed lesson plans provided by faculty members.
•Familiarity with general classroom management techniques.
•Availability during the full school day (8am-3pm) and willing to be on-call or scheduled in advance.
SJRS and OLMA are thriving private schools with 200 students total enrollment. Sharing a vibrant campus in downtown Keene along with Saint Bernard Church, SJRS and OLMA are dedicated to developing the mind, body, and spirit of each student in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
